The Board, Management and Staff of Royal Exchange Plc have expressed deep regret over the death of Chief John Akin-George, OFR, FCIB. Until his death, Chief Akin-George was the Chairman of J. Akin-George & Company Incorporated Insurance Brokers and was a Director of several companies operating in Nigeria.

Chief Akin-George was a former president of the Nigeria Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), past President of West African Chamber of Commerce, a fellow of the Corporation of Insurance Brokers and the Insurance Institute of Nigeria and for over five years was the Chairman of African Insurance Brokers Association (AIBA).

A press statement issued in Lagos said that Royal Exchange, as the pioneer insurance company in Nigeria, recalls with fond memories the pivotal role played by Late Chief Akin-George in entrenching best practices in insurance broking not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole through the promotion of ethical standards and professionalism in the profession.

The Royal Exchange statement further stated that Chief George devoted much of his professional life to the promotion of the Organized Private Sector (OPS) in Nigeria, as well as the building of enterprises and business advocacy institutions and was also a great mentor to many entrepreneurs. In addition, he played a key role in the development and growth of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
